Five Stars Family Burger is a no-frills hamburger joint in Cornelius that keeps things fresh and authentic with a semi-outdoor kitchen setup. Located right on E Baseline Street, it feels like the kind of local spot where the smells of sizzling patties and smoky bacon drift openly onto the sidewalk, thanks to a couple of fans pushing the kitchen air outside. This creates an informal, open-air vibe that makes it clear you’re here for serious burger business, not fine dining.

The menu leans heavily on creative takes on the classic burger, with standout options like the Kimchi Cheeseburger and Bulgogi Cheese Burger adding a punch of flavor that locals seem to really appreciate. Both burgers have earned praise for balancing spicy, savory, and tangy notes, especially the kimchi-infused versions that bring some Korean flair to a familiar comfort meal. If you like your burgers with a kick or a twist beyond the usual, this is where you’ll find it.

Five Stars Family Burger is well-suited to folks looking for a casual, made-to-order burger experience that doesn’t rush you — be prepared for waits, especially when business picks up, but the laid-back service and family-run atmosphere smooth out the pauses. The owners clearly interact with guests in a friendly way, making the wait more about sharing a local moment than just time on the clock. The burger portions come with just enough fries to round out the meal without overdoing it, which feels thoughtful rather than excessive.

The spot draws a crowd that values quality and flavor over polished surroundings — it’s a functional place with hardware store fans and a practical setup you won’t find in a traditional sit-down restaurant. Payment by card carries a small fee, a detail to keep in mind. Breakfast options like burritos mean it’s not solely for lunch or dinner, and the variety of burger combos, from double cheeseburgers to avocado and bacon-enhanced versions, caters to different cravings and appetites.

Visit during quieter parts of the day if you want a faster turnaround, or come with no rush to enjoy the open-air atmosphere and resilient homey energy of the staff. It’s a spot that fits into Cornelius as a down-to-earth place for fresh, thoughtfully crafted burgers with a local twist, especially if you’re curious about the Korean-inspired flavors that feature prominently here.

Visit #2: Came back to try out their Kimchi and Bulgogi Burgers. Both were spectacular. The Bulgogi burger was savory, juicy, delicious and 5* great but the Kimchi Burger was absolutely stellar (10*/5). Both me and my wife really loved their Kimchi. Very flavorful and spicy in a well balanced way. Cannot wait to be back, to try out all the other variations. Service was very very kind and generous as usual. I ordered late and did not expect them to be able to accommodate me on this particular day, but they were able to make space for me and I was the last order of the day. Thank you so much folks! Visit #1: I came, i saw, i ate and my heart got conquered! David's energy was absolutely incredible from the get-go. He made my day even before i tried the food. Randomly found this place while looking for a good hotdog place online. After going through photos and reviews, i realized that they have amazing burgers as well and that due to their popularity i should order well ahead of time. I called and placed my order around 10:30am and was given a pickup time of 11:40am. Even on the phone call David was very enthusiastic and i knew that service would be great. He inquired if i was Indian and mentioned that he received a lot of orders from Indians recently. Given their popularity, i wasn't surprised. It is a testament to their amazing food and service that customers keep coming back for more. I placed an order for an H4 which is the fully loaded hotdog with grilled onions, bacon and Korean BBQ and fries on the side. Showed up on time and was served immediately. Since the sun was out and i wanted to bask in it, i decided to seat myself on the wooden tables, just outside the store. While i was unwrapping my box, David came out with a couple of ketchup packets and ensured that i had enough napkins in the box. He had already told me while serving that i was going to enjoy the hotdog a lot and checked on me a couple of times while i was eating. I felt like a kid at home, it reminded me of how elders would check on us while we were eating! Even when David went back to making burgers and hotdogs and had to fire up his equipment, he gave me a heads up that there will be smoke, since i was seated outside. I didn't have any issues with smoke, but i really really appreciated the thoughtful communication. David was absolutely right. I enjoyed the hotdog a lot! It was an amazing hotdog. Definitely on my top 5, maybe even top 3. It was totally stacked and didn't need anything else on top, in terms of sauces. The flavors melded seamlessly and the amount of care and thoughtfulness that had gone into its creation, definitely showed. The fries were wonderfully fresh and crisp, very solid execution on those as well. I was satiated and left with a huge smile on my face and heart. I am a huge fan of hotdogs and fries and people with similar inclinations are recommended to check this place out. Five Stars Family Burger is even worth a detour if you are driving somewhere close by. Just ensure that they might be super busy, so call ahead of time and inquire when the pick up time will be. I have no words for how appreciative i am of receiving an exact time of when my food will be ready and then not having to wait for it when i reached the store. It allowed me to plan well ahead of time and then have an amazing experience fully focused on the food and the service that i received. I can't wait to return and try their burgers, especially the kimchi and bulgogi cheeseburgers. This place had a very homely feel for me, i loved the positive energy and infectious enthusiasm that David had. This was my first visit, but it definitely won't be my last! I will be back, and so will other Indians :D

Incredible burgers served by incredible people. This place is such a cool spot with very tasty burgers. They make everything fresh to order and with high quality ingredients. It costs a little more but it's worth it here. The burgers also come with the absolute perfect amount of fries with your burger. Its far for me but I'll be back.

Great food, great owners , but a total dive. Every burger is made to order in a semi outdoor kitchen. There are 2 hardware store fans that blow smoke and the scent of the delicious burgers straight into the street. You are greeted by a friendly smile and asked if you’re there to pick up. We were there to order and immediately told it would be an hour wait. We were in no hurry and decided to hang out for the 40 minutes it took to get our Bulgogi burgers and fries. The burgers were really excellent and worth the wait. Turns out most people order by phone and pick up their burgers later.

We originally tried coming here months ago and there was a long wait so we decided to come another time (at the time we didn't know just how popular they are) and it took us some time to make it back to the area. Today we called at 11:30am and it was a 1.5 hr wait, not too bad, and we were able to hit it up on our way home from the beach. The owners are so friendly. The burgers are worth the hype. They are incredibly juicy and I love that they're not cooked well-done, just a little pink in the middle. The flavors are great and the fries compliment them well. Halfway through our meal the owner asked us by name how it was all tasting. They love what they do and they're good at it! A note about the people leaving negative reviews about the wait and service: the long wait shows they're popular (and for a reason) and that's a good thing, meaning a local business is doing well. Call ahead and be patient for good food. And the owners had big smiles on their faces for us and everyone else they served while we were there. Be good to them and they'll be good to you.

great food, small place, food quality focused. I ordered the heat level 10 kimchi burger. It was delicious. Be warned, it is legit spicy which is something I love, but use caution if you aren't truly a hear junkie
